Lingard Turns Down Man United Offer
Manchester United forward, Jesse Lingard, has apparently turned down a contract offer from the club.
The 28-year-old Englishman – who spent last season on loan with West Ham – is currently in the final year of his 100 000-pound-a-week contract, and apparently turned down other clubs’ offers of a summer move in order to remain at the Red Devils.
However, per reports on Tuesday, 7 September, Lingard rejected a new deal with United due to recent additions to the team.
Two months ago, Jadon Sancho signed with the English outfit from Borussia Dortmund on a five-year contract. Then, at the end of last month, it was announced that Cristiano Ronaldo would be returning following a three-year stint with Juventus.
Fears that a lack of playing time will potentially impact his place in the England squad ahead of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar next year have contributed to Lingard’s decision to reject United’s latest offer.
If the two parties fail to come to an agreement, then Lingard will be able to leave the club on a free transfer at the season’s end.
